Welcome to this month’s Art Review of the exhibition ‘The Guinea Pig Show’ – by Ben Andrew and friends. Written by Level Best Trainee Gallery Assistants Marcus, Laura, Tom C, Ben, Sam and Melissa with support from staff members Beth and Megan. Typed by Marcus.
This artist comes to Level Best and is an Art Trainee. He’s good at drawing animals and takes his time. A small area of the gallery is full of work by other artists who are Trainees and staff members.
There are 34 pieces of art in lots of different sizes. They are all guinea pigs. It is very colourful. Some are mono prints, there is lino printing, some are paintings, but most of them are drawings.
The room looks tidy, colourful, and it feels calming, peaceful, happy and relaxing
The art is about lovely guinea pigs and the love of animals. It’s very creative and fun; some of the guinea pigs are wearing silly hats and outfits so it’s not serious!
Our favourite pieces are :
Ben 9 + 10 ‘Party Pigs’ and ‘Spice Pigs’ because they are both awesome
Marcus 12 ‘Merry Christmas’ because of the Christmas hats and accessories
Laura 29+30 ‘Scone Pig’ and ‘Cowboy’ because they are so funny
Tom 30 ‘Cowboy’ because he likes cowboys
Sam 32 ‘Lifeguard’ because it makes her laugh so much
Melissa said there are too many to choose from and ‘it’s all too much!’
We all agreed number 21 is not finished, and the purple ones are not very detailed, but it is interesting to see Ben’s experiments.
You should come to see the show because Ben and other Trainees worked hard and it is very creative and colourful. If you like guinea pigs, this is the show for you! It is family-friendly because the children would love it. Also, there are some guinea pig colouring sheets for you to do.
We give the exhibition the following marks out of 10:
Marcus, Laura and Ben 100 /100 because lots of time and effort were put in
Tom 11/10
Sam 10/10 because there’s lots to see.
Melissa 5/10 it feels ‘meh ’, and there is too much.
Ben would like to invite everyone to the exhibition party on the 21st of July from 1:30 pm -it is a chance to celebrate the show and his birthday- all are welcome.
‘The Guinea Pig Show’ is open at Level Best Gallery every weekday until Thursday 30th July.
