Ready for some fresh flavours? There is plenty to enjoy at Colchester’s Level Best Cafe this spring and summer, as we launch our new seasonal menu for 2026.
Whether you are joining us for breakfast, popping in for lunch, meeting a friend for coffee, or treating yourself to cake and a cold drink, we’ve created our new menu to offer something for everyone. As always, you can expect fresh, tasty food, friendly service, and a warm welcome in the heart of Colchester.
Join us for breakfast
Our breakfast menu is available from 8.30 am to 11.30 am, with comforting favourites including crumpets with butter, toasted teacakes, beans on toast, and Level Best sourdough toast served with our own homemade jam. There is also avocado on sourdough toast for those looking for a lighter start to the day, along with a separate kids’ breakfast menu featuring simple, affordable choices for younger visitors.
Stay for lunch
From 12 pm to 2.30 pm, our lunch menu brings together fresh, homemade dishes and seasonal specials. Guests can enjoy the soup of the day with a homemade roll, a homemade vegetable burger of the week, jacket potatoes with a daily filling, pasta dishes, a quiche of the day, a tart of the week, and a salad bowl of the week. Many of these dishes are served with salads and sweet potato wedges, making them ideal for a filling and satisfying lunch.
You deserve a treat
Our popular treats are available throughout the day, including homemade fruit or cheese scones, cake, assorted pastries, crisps, and our cream tea deal, which includes a homemade fruit scone, clotted cream, Level Best jam, and any hot drink.
Delicious drinks for everyone
Our drinks menu has also had a seasonal refresh. Alongside a full range of coffees, teas, chai lattes and hot chocolates, there are some lovely cold options for warmer days. These include iced coffee, seasonal cordial served with still or sparkling water, and a range of local drinks from Sipp’d, such as cardamom and sea salt limeade, hibiscus lemonade, cream soda, and rhubarb soda. We also have juice cartons, bottled water, and soft drinks available, as well as a puppuccino for our four-legged visitors.
We are also continuing to offer 50p off takeaway drinks when customers bring their own cup.
