My Masks Show Live Performance and Exhibition

This will be Pete’s fifth live performance in Colchester. At our gallery, Pete will be taking over the space and exhibiting a series of masks that bring to life a group of fictional characters that are of Pete’s artistic vision and imagination.

An artist since 1968, Pete started by painting portraits and drawings of fictional characters, named the ‘Nonogon Nomads’ which features the original character Apulhed, a spoof on the comic book character Superman.

With more than 20 exhibitions in Essex under his belt and one in his hometown of Burnley, Pete will be performing every Friday from Friday 1st September until Friday 29th breathing life into his Nonogon characters whilst marking the occasion of his new exhibition. The opening performance which features Pete wearing a collection of his masks includes a mystical portal that acts as a window into alternative realities.

Pete says: “I’ve been working hard on my art continuously almost non-stop since 1971. Doing work in my creative ways has been like a daily drug regime, a habit I couldn’t kick!”

“The bringing to life in the performance of my Nonogon characters plus a smattering of other masks like my tribute to Kazuo Ohno is incremental.

“They’ll be coming out again throughout September in this exhibition of masks & and images in this lovely new Level Best Gallery.”

Bringing a mixture of sculptures, masks, and images, Pete’s art will be on display from Friday 1st September until Friday 29th September. With performances starting at 6.30pm for the first Friday, then from 2pm every Friday until the show ends.
