‘Self/Contained’ by Clare Sams 

An exhibition by Clare Sams will be on display throughout the month of December.

This will be Clare’s first Level Best exhibition, and is launching alongside our Christmas Market on December 2nd. 

Clare’s work shines a light on the carbon footprint generated by the textile industry with a focus on mass importation of household materials to the UK. Reflecting on fashion and textile wastage, Clare’s work, made from entirely recycled materials, dives into the devastating effect fast fashion has on our planet. 

In the UK shoppers buy more clothing per capita than any other country in Europe. Millions of tonnes of clothing are manufactured, bought and then thrown away every year. At present a staggering 300,000 tonnes of fast fashion and wasted textiles are sitting in landfill without being used or recycled. This vicious, wasteful cycle has contributed to as much as 10% of global carbon emissions and is the second biggest consumer of water.
