June at Level Best has been blooming with colour, creativity and community spirit. From gallery takeovers to garden adventures, here’s a round-up of what our incredible trainees and teams have been up to this month!
🌼 Elderflower Season is Here!
Our Seasonal and Allotment Teams have been busy foraging the hedgerows for elderflower to create our much-loved cordial. Bursting with early summer freshness, it’s now available in the café so come grab a bottle while it lasts!
🖼️ Gallery in Action: Curated by Trainees
Shelby, Sophie and Owen were the stars of the show as they took on the roles of Gallery Assistants for the morning. From hanging artwork and curating the layout to preparing signage and labels, they did a brilliant job getting the new exhibition visitor-ready. And yes, we hear they kept Megan (Gallery Technician for the day) firmly on her toes!
🧁 Pride Month Celebrations
The café turned rainbow-bright this month with Pride cupcakes, thanks to Marcus and Darryl’s expert decorating. We also showcased a beautiful handmade artwork loaned to us for the month, a big thank you to the artists and Happy Pride to all from Team Level Best!
🐦 Pond Dipping & Birdwatching with Essex Wildlife Trust
The Gardening team took a well-earned outdoor break with a visit to Fingringhoe Wick, where they spent the day connecting with nature. Pond dipping, birdwatching, and plenty of laughs made it a day to remember!
🧑🍳 FOH Focus: Meet the Team
We’ve been shining a spotlight on our brilliant Front of House trainees as they take on new roles and responsibilities.
- Mel has taken the lead on placing our weekly Sainsbury’s orders! She’s mastered the login, learned the process, and is now preparing for stock counting duties.
- William, our Thursday breakfast Sous Chef, has been whipping up hot breakfasts to order while keeping an eye on quality and timing. Great work, both of you!

- New Greeting Cards: 20 gorgeous new designs featuring trainee artwork are now on sale at the café. Just £2 each—perfect for every occasion.
- Mini Prints & Postcards: Starting from £1.50, our new range is an affordable way to take home or gift our art. Every purchase supports our talented trainee artists.
- Knitted Sculpture Spotlight: Simon Waller’s epic “Good Big Yellow Knitting” made its gallery debut! Made with 10 balls of yarn and bound onto a custom frame, it’s a joyful burst of yellow that winds its way from the studio all the way downstairs.
- Pressed Flower Art: Naomi combined collage and florals from her garden to create a delicate Oshibana piece, proudly displayed after months of creative work.
