We are pleased to share that Simon King has been appointed to join our Board of Trustees at The Dacon Trust. Simon joins us with extensive experience in public health, community wellbeing and youth development, and a strong personal commitment to supporting people with learning disabilities to gain confidence, skills and independence.
Professional Background
Simon is currently Wellbeing and Public Health Lead – Communities at Essex County Council, where he delivers programmes focused on improving health outcomes, strengthening family and community support, and addressing inequalities. His career includes significant leadership experience across public health, sport and physical activity, strategic implementation and multi-agency service delivery.
His strategic insight and understanding of community needs will play an important role in supporting The Dacon Trust’s oversight as Level Best Enterprises continues to expand its social enterprise activity and training provisions.
Why Simon Chose to Become a Trustee
Simon is passionate about contributing to an organisation that delivers practical, life-improving opportunities for people with learning disabilities. His decision to join the Board reflects his ongoing commitment to inclusion and community wellbeing.
He says: “I’ve seen first-hand how the right support can help people build confidence and develop new skills. Level Best creates those opportunities every day, and I wanted to be part of an organisation that makes such a direct and positive impact.
“The Dacon Trust has a clear mission and a strong community ethos. Becoming a Trustee allows me to use my experience in public health and community development to support a charity that is genuinely changing lives.”
Interests and Community Involvement
Alongside his professional roles, Simon is active in youth sport and local community initiatives. He has coached several football teams and volunteers as a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs, caring for puppies from eight weeks old and teaching them essential early skills to prepare for advanced training before their life-changing partnership with someone who is visually impaired.
This practical involvement gives him strong insight into the value of structured support, routine and encouragement – principles that align closely with The Dacon Trust’s work and the ethos of the Level Best training programmes.
What Simon’s Appointment Means for The Dacon Trust
Simon’s appointment strengthens the Trust’s governance at a time of growing demand for placements, expanding partnerships and increasing community activity. His background in wellbeing, strategic planning and service development will directly support the Trust’s long-term planning and its commitment to high-quality, inclusive training and enterprise opportunities.
